Towson honors former player’s ultimate sacrifice with scholarship

Towson football alum Sgt. Maj. Wardell Turner gave his life fighting for his country in Afghanistan in 2014. His vehicle was attacked while he was serving as an advisor on a NATO mission to train Afghan troops.

In recognition of Veterans Day on Nov. 11 and Turner’s sacrifice, Towson has introduced the Wardell Turner Scholarship Endowment. It will be presented annually to a deserving football student-athlete.

The award will be made during summer football camp. The endowment goal is to reach $100,000 by July 1, 2016.
