SUPER POLL 16: Houston’s upset of Oklahoma vaults Cougars to No. 6

Houston will make its debut on ASN Saturday against Lamar as the sixth-ranked team in the nation.

The Cougars vaulted to No. 6 in the in the Football Writers Association of America-National Football Foundation Super Poll 16 after beating Oklahoma, 33-23.

The Sooners, who were No. 2 in the preseason poll, plummeted to No. 16.

Alabama remained No. 1 after a lopsided victory over USC on Saturday night. Florida State, scared early by Ole Miss on Monday night, moved up to No. 2 with a comeback victory.

The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective.

Out of the poll this week were LSU, which lost to Wisconsin, and Notre Dame, which lost to Texas in OT. Joining the poll were Georgia, Texas and the Badgers.
