Saint Joseph’s Miles, Memphis’s Hearn join Oakland’s Felder as players of the week

It’s beginning to sound like a broken record, but once again Oakland’s Kahlil Felder, along with Isaiah Miles of Saint Joseph are ASN’s male basketball players of the week. Ariel Hearn of Memphis is the women’s player of the week.

Kahlil Felder

Felder, who earned the pick for the third straight week, captured the imagination of the nation with his thrilling performance in an overtime upset bid of No. 1 Michigan State 99-93 on Dec. 22.

The 5-foot-9 junior distributed nine assists while frustrating the Spartans defense with 37 points. Felder was clutch with five points in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. He was unstoppable until he fouled out in the final minute of overtime.

Miles, a Saint Joseph’s senior, posted a double/double in leading the Hawks to a road win at Virginia Tech. He scored a career high 36 points and a career-best 15 rebounds.

The victory over the Hokies was Saint Joseph’s fifth straight win.

On the women’s side, Hearn also earned American Athletic Conference player of the week honors. In the Tigers’ first game of the

week against Central Michigan, Hearn made a three-point play with just 6.5 seconds remaining in the contest, converting a steal into a fastbreak bucket.

In two games Hearn averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 boards and 3.5 steals which included a 29 point, 7, 6, and 5 (rebounds, assists, steals respectively) against Illinois.

Hearn is in elite company at Memphis as the only women’s basketball player with 1,500 points and 350 assists. She joins two men’s players in that category in Memphis basketball history.
