During a tour of Spain, one Oakland University player seemed more grateful for the opportunity than the others — Kahlil Felder. Felder thanked Grizzlies Coach Greg Kampe for the trip even though it was only halfway done.
Kampe knew then he had found his leader in the 5-9 point guard.
Felder earned ASN Basketball Player of the Week honors after leading the Grizzlies to two wins last week, running their record to 6-3 — tying their best start in 17 Division I seasons.
The Horizon League preseason Player of the Year averaged 29.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals while hitting 18 of 39 field goals (46%), 3 of 7 3-pointers (43%) and 20 of 21 free throws (95%).
Felder scored 25 points with 7 assists and 4 steals in a 83-72 win over Binghamton. The Grizzlies also beat Toledo, 76-64, as Felder racked up 34 points, 6 assists and 3 steals with 13-of-13 shooting from the free-throw line.
Currently Felder leads the nation with 8.9 assists per game. He’s fifth in scoring at 24.6 ppg and his 63 free-throws made ranks seventh.
