With Villanova at No. 4, the CAA leads the way among ASN-affiliated schools in the Sporting News’ FCS Preseason Top 25.  The Wildcats are one of three CAA and 10 ASN-affiliated teams to make the annual college football preview magazine’s list.

Villanova finished 11-3 overall and 7-1 in conference games last year. The Wildcats earned the No. 6 national seed in the FCS playoffs, eventually reaching the quarterfinal round. The Wildcats are led by reigning Walter Payton Award-winner John Robertson at quarterback and Buck Buchanan Award runner-up Don Cherry at linebacker. Both are listed on Sporting News’ preseason FCS All-America Team.

The other ranked ASN-affiliated teams by conference:

  • CAA: James Madison at No. 12 and New Hampshire at No. 18
  • Big South: Coastal Carolina at No. 6, Liberty at No. 16 and Charleston Southern at No. 24
  • Ohio Valley: Jacksonville State at No. 7, Eastern Kentucky at No. 14 and Eastern Illinois at No. 25
