UTEP's 3 OT game-winner not to be missed

Call it synergy. Call it a psychic connection. Whatever you call it, it was unusual.

Thursday night Florida International faced UTEP in men's and women's basketball - the women in Miami, the men in El Paso.

Both games went to overtime.

Both games ended with the same score: 88-87.

For Panthers fans, it was a good day for the women, who beat the Miners in triple overtime when sophomore guard Kristian Hudson hit a three inside the midcourt stripe. The shot was her only made three of the game and gave h er a career-high 35 points.

It also gave FIU it's first two-game home win streak in four years.

"My teammates kept looking for me tonight and for me, hitting shots is just repetition. I am always shooting in the gym and working with Coach Joe (Silvestri). Our team gave everything we had tonight. We were really locked in. We are really starting to play together."

Head coach Tiara Malcom said "They won this game with defense. Every time UTEP went down and hit a big shot, our ladies came down and hit a big shot. It was on me to remain calm and show them to be calm. We took it possession by possession and won this game by playing good defense."

UTEP's men though got the better end of the matchup. Taking FIU to two overtimes, they also won on a last-second shot, 88-87.

Senior Dominic Artis hit the game-winner as time expired. The victory for UTEP ended a 12-game skid.
