Upset alert: Three surprises to watch for in Week 3
NORTH DAKOTA STATE AT IOWA
North Dakota State is an FCS team, but keep in mind the Bison are the five-time defending national champions and have won their last 5 games against FBS opponents.
This might be the best team that the Hawkeyes have faced this season. The game is at Iowa but expect Bison fans at at Kinnick Stadium to be in high volume.
It will be interesting to see how Easton Stick, NDSU’s new starting quarterback, and running back King Frazier respond to the pressure. Can they continue the Bison's winning streak against FBS opponents?
MIAMI AT APPALACHIAN STATE
Boone, N.C., is under Hurricane watch with Miami (Fla.) coming to town.
But the Mountaineers appear ready to withstand the storm. Appalachian State has proved that they are a team that should be feared by even the most dominant of Power 5 teams in the country. We have the 2007 upset against Michigan and their near upset over Tennessee two weeks ago as reminders.
The fact that the game is in Boone only makes the challenge that much more intimidating for Miami. But Miami’s running game under first-year head coach Mark Richt will be daunting.
TEMPLE AT PENN STATE
This is a must-win game for Penn State. The loss to rival Pitt last week is not a complete negative for the Nittany Lions because of their late rally. But a loss to Temple would be a different story, especially after a loss to the Owls last year.
But the Owls travel to Penn State this year and they have never beaten the Nittany Lions on their turf. Temple has the momentum of a 38-0 win against Stony Brook last week.
Will Penn State lose to both in-state foes in consecutive weeks? Or will the Owls falter and give the Nittany Lions the momentum they need to move ahead this season?
