Two earn inaugural ASN Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors
Finally ... it’s college basketball season!
And two players opened the season with a bang to earn the first of our weekly honors as selected by Mark Adams, ASN's lead college basketball analyst.
Introducing the inaugural ASN Men's Basketball Players of the Week:
Jack Gibbs, Davidson
The 6-foot junior guard torched UCF with 35 points (12 of 23 field goals) on Nov. 14. He also hauled down 5 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in the Wildcats' 90-85 win at home. Gibbs scored a career-high 37 points against UCF last season. Former Davidson great Stephen Curry averages 33.4 points per game for the NBA's Golden State Warriors. As of Monday, Gibbs is the NCAA scoring leader at 35.0 ppg.
Wayne Martin, Tennessee State
The 6-7 redshirt junior forward pulled off a rare 20-20 double-double with 27 points (10 of 15 field goals) and 21 rebounds in an 86-71 win at Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 13. More impressively, Martin, a transfer from Navarro College (Texas), came off the bench. The NCAA's second-leading rebounder as of Monday, Martin completed the first half with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 14 minutes.
