Tre McBride's NFL Draft Diary: Ready for new start with Titans
Last week, I was NFL draft pick No. 245.
This week, I start my journey as a Tennessee Titan.
I reported to rookie mini-camp on May 10, and now it’s up to me to hit the ground running and make the roster.
Where I got drafted doesn’t matter anymore. I’m OK with all that. It just makes the end result better.
My whole life, this is what I’ve wanted: to get my feet planted in the league. My personal story — playing college football at a small school, coming into the NFL as a late round draft pick — could be a huge Cinderella story if I finally make it with an NFL team.
When Tennessee drafted me, I wasn’t as familiar with their depth chart as I was with the depth charts of some of the other teams that I had private workouts with. I’d spoken to them at the East-West Shrine Game and at the NFL Combine, but they didn’t work me out before the draft.
But I did know that they’d drafted Marcus Mariota in the first round, and Dorial Green-Beckham in the second. I know they’re in a rebuilding phase, and that Mariota is a good quarterback. I threw with him at the NFL Combine a couple of times. So it’s exciting that we’re all coming in together as rookies and being able to build that chemistry right off the bat. I feel like I have a great chance of making an NFL roster with the Titans.
I’m just glad the Titans took a chance on me. There’s a big opportunity for success there, and I’m here to prove a point.
Nashville represents a new city, new culture and a new start. I’m ready to take it all in. No looking back.
