Super sophs: Joshua Braun, Abby Rendle earn Player of the Week honors
The 6-4 sophomore guard scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds in a 90-65 victory Thursday at Chicago State and followed up with 31 points and 10 rebounds in an 85-78 win Saturday at UMKC
For the week, Braun averaged 25.5 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 offensive rebounds and shot 50% on field goals, 60% on 3-pointers and 81% from the free-throw line.
For the season he is averaging 17.8 ppg — 12th among the nation's sophomores — 5.6RPG and is shooting 48% on field goals and 3-pointers, helping GCU to an 18-2 record and 5-0 in the WAC.
The Lopes have won 11 consecutive games, their longest since moving to Division I in 2013. Their 18-2 record is a D-1 school record.
Abby Rendle of William & Mary (12-5, 3-3 CAA), who etched her name in the CAA history books this with a triple-double last week, is ASN National Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
She picked up the CAA's player of the week nod after career-highs of 24 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 77-65 victory against UNCW. It's the the first triple-double of its kind (point, rebound, block) in the CAA since 2006 according to the conference news release.
Rendle's 10 blocks against set a school single-game record.
