St. Lawrence goalie, BU forward named hockey players of the week

Kyle Hayton and Victoria Bach led their teams in different ways to earn ASN Player of the Week honors.

Hayton, a finalist for the Mike Richter award last season and on the watch list against this year, was the ECAC Rookie of the Year for St. Lawrence as a freshman. The sophomore turned back 31 shots Saturday against unbeaten Quinnipiac in a scoreless tie. On Friday night, he made 41 saves in a 5-1 win over Princeton. Mix in a 3-0 shutout over Clarkson in his previous outing and Hayton has two shutouts in the past three games and seven for his career, just show shy of the SLU record.

The scoreless tie against the Bobcats was the first in school history for the Saints and second for Quinnipiac, which came into the weekend unbeaten and untied and ranked second and third in all college hockey polls. St. Lawrence was ranked 14th. Hayton is turning back shots at a .938 clip with a 1.82 goals-against average.

Bach took to the offensive to lift Boston University, scoring her second hat trick of the season and adding an assist in the Terriers’ weekend sweep over Merrimack.

The sophomore forward now has seven goals and nine assists for the 10-6 Terriers. Her assist in Saturday’s 4-2 win marked her 50th point of her BU career.
