Matt Morgan's freshman record for Cornell earns Player of the Week honors
He scored a school freshman record 33 points in a 77-65 victory at Harvard and followed up with 32 points in a 77-73 win at Dartmouth. The 6-3 guard shot 44% on 3-pointers (8 of 18) and 81% on free throws (29 of 36).
Morgan, the son of former Georgetown player Lamont Morgan (1990-94), is the first Big Red freshman to score 30 points twice in a season. The two road wins were the first sweep of the Harvard/Dartmouth road trip since 2010. Cornell is 2-2 in the Ancient 8.
For the season, Morgan is averaging 18.5 ppg, second in the nation among NCAA freshman. In Ivy League play he is averaging 30.0 ppg, tops in the league, while draining 41% of his 3-pointers.
