How old were you when you knew what you wanted to do with your life?
For 15-year-old Steven Dimaria, this summer has been all about learning to run a minor league team as the Kid CEO of the Somerset Patriots, an Atlantic League team based in Bridgewater Township, N.J.
For the past 11 years, the Patriots have invited a young fan to follow the front office during games to learn about ticketing, merchandising, promotions, media, marketing and other ballpark operations. But it’s not just work — the Kid CEO gets tickets to five games, gets to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and gets to know the team and players.
Dimaria, who wants to work in baseball one day, beat out more than 100 applicants. As one of five finalists, he had to make a speech on the field pregame before he was chosen.
