Jack Gibbs, Jonquel Jones score National Player of the Week honors
His latest 40-point effort earned Gibbs his second ASN National Player of the Week honor with George Washington's Jonquel Jones earning the top women's award.
Jack Gibbs, Davidson
The 6-0 junior scored a career-high 43 points Saturday in an 86-74 victory against UMass. He added eight rebounds and eight assists while shooting 46% on field goals, 44% on 3-pointers and 94% on free throws (15 of 16).
Last Tuesday in a 80-74 loss at Dayton, Gibbs netted 31 points — his sixth 30-point game — with eight assists and a season high seven 3-pointers.
Gibbs averaged 37.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 7.0 apg, 43% field-goal shooting, 42% 3-point shooting and 88% free-throw shooting. The A-10's leading scorer is averaging 25.7 ppg, which ranks second nationally. He's also the 48th Davdison player to surpass 1,000 career points.
Jonquel Jones, George Washington
Jones leads the NCAA in double-doubles notching her 15th this weekend with 18 rebounds and 24 points in a 70-52 victory over No. 25 Duquesne.
Over GW's two victories this week the double-double machine posted 18 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks. Jones & Co. are 15-3 on the season and unscathed at 5-0 in A-10 play, beating conference opponents by an average of 15 points and two of their next three games are at home in the Smith Center.
The Colonials are receiving votes in the Coaches Poll and with Jones as the engine it should be only a matter of time before they're ranked.
