Charles Williams leads Canisius to first title, earns Men's Player of the Week

In the final regular-season game on Thursday, Canisius goalie Charles Williams stopped all 32 shots he faced in a 4-0 victory over Mercyhurst to extend the nation's longest active unbeaten streak to 15 games, helping the Golden Griffins earn their first ever Atlantic Hockey Conference title.

Williams posted his school-record fifth shutout of the season in that victory. He also set a school record for wins in a season with his 19th in the pipes. This season, Williams has a . 946 save percentage and 1.8 goals-against average.

Williams, a graduate student who played at Ferris State from 2012-16, received the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award in 2016.

With the victory and an Air Force loss, the Griffins earned the top seed in the Atlantic tournament, which starts on Friday. They have a bye in the first round and will host the lowest remaining seed when the the quarterfinals kick off next weekend.
