Big hearts translate to even bigger smiles at NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl

Both Colorado State and Nevada took some time away from the practice field Sunday to visit the pediatric ward at the Tucson Medical Center. Select players from the teams, Miss Arizona Bowl, the team mascots and the cheerleaders went room-to-room visiting the kids, bringing a little light to what could be a dim environment at the holidays.

Both teams are in town for Tuesday's NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl, to be broadcast on ASN and streamed live on and

When the players presented t-shirts with their team logos to the patients their faces lit up with excitement.

"To be honest I didn't know what to expect," said Nevada senior running back Don Jackson. "I had never been to a children's hospital before today and it is really tough to see. I didn't really have many expectations today, I just knew that I wanted to put smiles on their faces."

It is safe to say that Jackson's goal was accomplished.

"I was expecting to gain more of a perspective coming here today," said Colorado State junior running back Eric Williams. "I was really just hoping I could put a smile on their faces and brighten their day. I think just to take their mind off of whatever they are going through for a little while was what we were here to do."

The players, mascots, cheerleaders, and Miss Arizona Bowl made this day about the kids and took themselves out of the spotlight in order to shine it on them.
