Another nil by Nell nets Men's Player of the Week honors for BGSU goalie

If Bowling Green is to get back into the WCHA race, it needs to start this weekend with a sweep of conference-leading Bemidji State.

Just don’t expect a lot of goals to be scored.

The Falcons are led by ASN Men's Player of the Week Chris Nell, the junior goalie who just notched his school-best eighth shutout of his career this past weekend. Bowling Green blanked RIT, 3-0, at the Winterfest Doubleheader hosted by the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.

The shutout was Nell’s first this season after notching four last season when he earned the First Team All-WCHA honors with a 1.91 goals-against average and .930 save percentage. The Falcons started slow, getting swept on the road at Bemidji State but were one of the conference favorites entering the campaign.

Nell’s save percentage has climbed back to .892 with a 2.54 goals-against average as Bowling Green has moved to 10-11-2 overall and 8-7-1 overall.

Friday’s WCHA showdown is the nightcap of ASN’s college hockey doubleheader. UMass hosts UMass Lowell in the opening game.

Bowling GreenBemidji State is a goalie showcase, as Beavers goalie Michael Bitzer is coming off a 1-0 win over Alaska Anchorage to avenge a 4-1 loss the series opener to move to 14-7-3 overall and 14-2-2-2 in conference play. His 1.46 goals-against average is second best in the nation.
