After a year off, Columbia's Alex Rosenberg returns to the basketball court

Alex Rosenberg knew something was terribly wrong with his foot the minute he landed during a practice last year.

Columbia's senior forward was forced to stay off his foot for up to four months. Rather than miss significant time in his final year - Ivy League athletes are expected to use their four years of eligibility in their first four years as enrolled, full-time students - Rosenberg decided to withdraw from school to preserve his four years of eligibility and come back stronger.

Other Ancient Eight athletes are following Rosenberg's lead. Harvard's Siyani Chambers, who is out for the season with a torn ACL, will take a voluntary leave to remain eligible for the 2016-17 season.

Meanwhile, after months of rehab, Rosenberg is back. And his return helped Columbia place second in the Ivy League's preseason pollĀ for only theĀ second time.
