A scare from Northern Illinois wasn’t enough not knock Ohio State out of the top of the FWAA-NFF Super 16 poll, but it was enough to allow a few other schools to earn some first-place nods in this week’s vote.
The Buckeyes hung on for a 20-13 victory in Columbus. But Ole Miss toppling Alabama in Tuscaloosa was enough to move the Rebels up from No. 13 last week to No. 4 this week. Ole Miss earned six first-place votes. It was the first time Ole Miss has beaten Alabama in consecutive years and the Rebels first victory at Alabama since 1988.
Michigan State, which received four first-place votes, moved up to No. 2 this week.
Both Oklahoma and Northwestern, unranked in this poll last week, joined the Super 16 at Nos. 15 and 16 respectively.
