Mack McCarthy

Coach Mack McCarthy joined the American Sports Network as a basketball color analyst in 2014, after coaching Division I college basketball for 34 years.

He was an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, East Tennessee State, Auburn (where he coached the likes of Charles Barkley and Chuck Person) and Georgia Tech (W). Mack was the head coach of the Chattanooga Mocs (going to 2 NITs, 5 NCAAs, a Sweet Sixteen, and won multiple COY honors), the VCU Rams, and the ECU Pirates.

A Virginia Tech graduate (for both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees), Mack has done television for ESPN, CSS, The American Digital Networks as well as hosting and appearing as a guest on multiple Talk Radio shows across the southeast. Coach has called games in The American, ACC, Big South, Big West, CAA, C-USA, Horizon League, MAC, Mountain West, Patriot League, SEC, Southern Conference, and Sun Belt.

As well as his knowledge of basketball and college sports in general, Mack is a fanatic NASCAR enthusiast.
