LA Tech’s Kenneth Dixon wins ASN’s FBS Player of the Week

Kenneth Dixon, who tied an NCAA record by scoring three touchdowns for the 11th time in his career, won ASN’s FBS Player of the Week in a runaway. He received 50% of 218 votes at

Louisiana Tech’s senior running back scored three touchdowns for the 11th time in his career, tying the NCAA record set by Wisconsin’s Montee Ball.

Dixon rushed for 169 yards on 25 carries in the Bulldogs’ 27-17 Conference USA victory against Florida International, his 20th career 100-yard game. He also climbed to No. 6 in NCAA history with 68 career touchdowns and 10th all time with 58 career rushing TDs.

James Madison’s Vad Lee won ASN’s FCS Player of the Week.

The FBS nominees included Western Kentucky’s Brandon Doughty,  Bowling Green’s Travis Greene and Nick Mullens of Southern Miss.

  • Doughty, a senior quarterback, threw for 457 yards and six touchdowns — five in the first half — on 33-of-41 passing in a 56-14 victory against Miami (Ohio) to become WKU’s all-time leader in career total yards. Doughty passed for 381 yards in the first half as the Hilltoppers scored 49 points, their most in a half since scoring 52 in the first half against West Virginia Tech on Sept. 8, 2007.
  • Greene, a redshirt senior, running back bowled over two defenders on a 12-yard touchdown run with nine seconds remaining to give the Falcons a 35-28 win against Purdue. He rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and caught six passes for 75 yards as the Falcons won their second game this season against a Big Ten opponent.
  • Mullens, a junior quarterback, threw for a career-high 447 yards on 26-of-41 passing, and nearly rallied Southern Miss from a 22-point fourth-quarter deficit at Nebraska. Both his touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles rallied from a 29-7 deficit. Trailing 36-28, Southern Miss moved to Nebraska’s 40-yard line in the final minute, but a sack ended the game.
