Larry Coker’s coaching resume includes a national championship in his first season as head coach at Miami (Fla.) in 2001. Another first: He’s the only head coach in UTSA’s brief history.
Coker was hired in 2009 to start the Roadrunners’ football program from scratch. The team had winning records in two of their first four seasons, including 8-4 in 2012, their second season. In 2013, UTSA’s first season in Conference USA, the Roadrunners were 7-5 overall and 6-2 in conference, finishing second in the West Division.
He’s also coached 26 first-team All-Americans, 97 first-team all-conference players and 90 academic all-conference players.
Heading into Saturday’s game on ASN against Old Dominion, Coker talked to ASN’s Doug Chapman about his legacy, recruiting with a national championship ring and one of his players you can expect to see in the NFL some day.
