ICYMI: Western Kentucky completes undefeated Conference USA run

In cased you missed it this weekend:

  • Western Kentucky ran away with the Conference USA championship, rallying from a 21-7 deficit to defeat Southern Mississippi 45-28. ASN’s FBS Player of the Year Brandon Doughty was also named Conference USA MVP of the championship game. This win marks the 11th conference championship in Hilltoppers history but the first at the FBS level. They’re also the first team to go undefeated in regular-season conference play and win the conference title game.
  • Sam Houston State upset  Southland Conference rival and fourth-seeded McNeese State, 34-29, and Colgate stunned fifth-seeded James Madison, 44-38, to advance in the FCS playofffs. Colgate is the first Patriot League football team to make the FCS quarterfinals since Lehigh in 2011.
  • An intra-city rivalry took place  between Charleston Southern and The Citadel in the FCS playoffs. The Bucs won 14-6to advance to the FCS quarterfinals.
  • Top-ranked Jacksonville State survived a close game against Chattanooga to reach the FCS quarterfinals with a 41-35 overtime win. The Gamecocks will take on Charleston Southern.
  • Richmond routed William & Mary 48-13 and advanced to play No. 2-seeded Illinois State in the FCS quarterfinals.
  • Matt Johnson and Travis Greene led Bowling Green to a 34-14 victory over Northern Illinois on Friday night in the MAC championship.
