ICYMI: A ghoulishly great night on the football field

In cased you missed it Saturday, Southern Miss dressed in all-black uniforms while UTEP decked out in all orange for Saturday night’s Conference USA Halloween game. Naturally, the weather turned scary — a lightning storm that caused the stadium to be cleared at the start of the fourth quarter in a weather delay. Here’s what else went bump in the night:

  • Conference USA’s Marshall took on the Charlotte 49ers today and continued to climb in the standings. Thundering Herd quarterback Chase Litton had a huge day as he went 33 of 48 in passing for 486 yards in the game — the second-most yards in a non-bowl game in school history.
  • Bowling Green quarterback and ASN’s FBS Player of the Week, Matt Johnson, continues to gain national attention as he sits at the top of the FBS overall statistics in passing yards and total yards. There is currently a trending hashtag on Twitter, #MattyJHeisman, that is pushing even more attention his way.
  • Jacksonville State quarterback Eli Jenkins played a huge role in the win over Eastern Kentucky this weekend. Jenkins ended the night with 342 total yards (324 passing, 18 rushing) and now joins David Gulledge (1987-90) as the only quarterbacks in school history to surpass 2,000 career rushing yards.
  • Florida Atlantic hosted C-USA rival Florida International at home in Boca Raton. With bragging rights and the Shula Bowl title on the line, FAU was dominant in a 31-17 win over FIU. Trey Rodriguez earn the game MVP award with his 140 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Ball State ended its five-game losing streak on Saturday with a 20-10 win over UMass. Riley Neal made his debut at quarterback in the victory. Neal threw for 275 yards and one touchdown.
