Boston College, Hockey East, NCHC win preseason poll position

Coming off banner seasons, Hockey East and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference appear to be the leagues to beat.

And Boston College appears to be the team to beat.

The eight-team NCHC, which had six teams make the NCAA Tournament last season, has the most teams ranked in the three preseason polls — six teams in the 20-team USCHO poll, five in the 15-team USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and three in the 10-team College Hockey News poll.

Minnesota Duluth is the conference's top-ranked team — No. 2 in the USCHO Poll and No. 3 in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and College Hockey News polls. North Dakota, which reached the Frozen Four in April along with NCHC rival Omaha, also made all three polls.

Hockey East boasts Boston College, the No. 1-ranked team in all three polls, and last season's two national finalists — Boston University and defending national champion Providence. The Terriers lost 4-3 to the Friars in the national championship game but are ranked ahead of Providence in all three polls.

The puck drops Friday on the six-league, 59-team season and ASN will broadcast as many as 33 games.
