Freak injury ended Notre Dame career, but UNT gave Eric Katenda a second chance

University of North Texas Mean Green Men's Basketball v Texas College

When he was only a sophomore in high school, North Texas forward Eric Katenda moved away from family and his native France to pursue his dream of playing basketball in the United States. He made a seemingly fluid transition in his new country, quickly learning English and garnering attention from Notre Dame.

The summer before enrolling at the university, Katenda suffered a freak injury on the court that left him blind in his left eye. Katenda also endured injuries while at Notre Dame, but he continued to push forward, graduating with a degree in sociology in just three years.

Since transferring to North Texas as a graduate student, Katenda is thriving during his second chance at collegiate hoops.
