Faceoff: Who is your choice to win the Northeast Region?

For a different take, watch hockey bracketology with ASN’s Brendan Jones

Providence is loaded with talent but the Friars’ concern is the loss to injury of defenseman Jake Walman, one of the best blue-liners in the country. Meanwhile, Minnesota Duluth goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo can dominate between the pipes, which makes the Bulldogs Dave Dondoneau’s sleeper pick to win the Northeast Region:

Crazy trend alert: All three teams who earned the final at-large berth in the past three tournaments have made the Frozen Four and two — Providence and Yale — have won the national title.

REGIONAL PREVIEW: Warning, Northeast, beware of Bulldogs

Duluth earned the final at-large bid this season and takes on region top seed and defending national champion Providence. If Northeastern is the No. 1 most dangerous No. 4 seed in the tournament, Minnesota Duluth is 1A.

In the past month the Bulldogs have swept West Region top seed St. Cloud State and dominated North Dakota in the NCHC semifinal. Shots that weren’t going in to start the season are starting to roll the Bulldogs’ way.

Providence had an 11-game win streak stopped in a triple overtime loss to UMass Lowell on a controversial goal that bounced off a skate and past goalie Nick Ellis.

Boston College and Worcester, Mass., regionals go together like peanut butter and jelly. The Eagles didn’t look good in the Hockey East semifinal loss to Northeastern, but BC has been dominant all season and can win any type of game, particularly with Hobey Baker Award and Mike Richter Award candidate Thatcher Demko in net.
