Showing why they are No. 1 again this week in the Football Writers Association of America-National Football Foundation Super 16 poll, Ohio State dominated Virginia Tech, 42-24, in front of a national TV audience on Labor Day.
The Buckeyes, the defending national champions, had 607 points and 37 first-place votes in the first regular-season vote. Alabama, ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll, moved to No. 2 with 555 points and 1 first place vote. TCU dropped to No. 3 with 482 points.
Voting is conducted by FWAA writers, College Football Hall of Famer members, NFF board members and highly regarded college administrators selected to create a geographically balanced perspective as well as a diverse viewpoint from all levels associated with the game.
Baylor remained at No. 4 this week and Michigan State, which beat Western Michigan 37-24, moved up to No. 5.
