Villanova quarterback John Robertson, last year's Walter Payton Award winner as the FCS Offensive Player of the Year, is one of 22 players — 10 of whom are quarterbacks — on this year's watch list for the award, renamed the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year.
Robertson is a key reason the Wildcats are on everyone’s preseason watch list. He led the FCS in passer efficiency rating (181.3) and had 35 touchdowns with only three interceptions as Villanova finished 11-3 overall and 7-1 in CAA Football last year. The Wildcats earned the No. 6 seed for the FCS playoffs and reached the tournament quarterfinals. Robertson, who sat out Villanova's quarterfinal loss (concussion), also surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the third consecutive season.
Robertson is among 10 players from ASN-affiliated schools, including six quarterbacks and three players from CAA Football, named to the watch list.
