Campbell will join the Big South as a football member starting in the the 2018 season, the conference announced today.
Campbell is a Big South member in 18 other sports but plays in the Pioneer Football League.
The Camels will be eligible to compete for the conference championship immediately.
Campbell, which will compete in the PFL next season, will move toward the FCS scholarship allotment of 63 after a decade in the non-scholarship PFL. Campbell brought back football in 2008 after a hiatus of 58 years.
“Ever since Campbell University returned to the Big South Conference in 2011, we have encouraged them to join Big South football,” Big South Commissioner Kyle Kallander said in a statement.
“Campbell is committed to excellence and doing things the right way, so we knew that once it added scholarships, Campbell football would be an outstanding addition to the Big South. It will not take long before the Camels are contending for the Conference championship and FCS Playoffs. This is terrific news for the Big South and we are thrilled to welcome Campbell Camels football in 2018!”
