Among the updates and expansions wrapping up is the addition of Mondoturf at High Point University for the soccer and lacrosse teams.
The new field, with the improved Vert Stadium surface, opened in July. View a timelapse of the turf's installation:
"Having a new turf installed allows us the opportunity to play quality soccer and attract top level programs to come play at Vert Stadium," women's soccer head coach Marty Beall said.
The Mondoturf Classic MF 3550 synthetic turf system provides durability, performance and playing characteristics for soccer that are unmatched in the industry. The fibers are more durable and designed for better ball roll than that of other synthetic fields.
Elsewhere, Coastal Carolina is set to debut the new Teal Turf at Brooks Stadium. "When the decision to install an artificial turf field was made, it only made sense that the turf be teal," said Coastal Carolina interim director of athletics Matt Hogue in January. "In addition to our winning tradition, we are known nationally for our distinctive color scheme. And it's not just the color our teams wear, but a campus-wide identity. We felt this would be a great opportunity to further build that brand."
Coastal will have the only teal field in the country.
Also getting a brush up is the Football Entrance Plaza at Charleston Southern’s Buccaneer Field. This “home improvement” includes a new brick entryway, ticket booths, greenery and wrought-iron fencing.
Monmouth is going beyond just sprucing up the old place. The school is planning to build a new football field. The stadium will host football games, lacrosse games, as well as men's and women's track and field events. Currently, the football team and both lacrosse programs play on Kessler Field, which was built in 1993.
