To wrap up ASN’s inaugural season of college hockey coverage we expanded our Elite Eight to a Sweet 16.
No, it doesn’t exactly match other polls or the NCAA Tournament field.
Nor should it.
Our rankings are based on the top 16 teams overall.
Without question, we give Quinnipiac the nod at No. 1. The Bobcats enter the NCAA Tournament as the top seed and have been the most consistent team in the country since the puck dropped this season.
New season starts Friday. Thanks for following along.

One line of Hobey Baker Award finalists, one of the best defensemen (Zach Werenski) in the game and two more lines that could be tops anywhere else. Offense rules, but can it win a national title?

Second-ranked defense in the nation, but meets Yale’s No. 1 defense in Northeast Region semifinal.

Crimson can score with Hobey candidate Jimmy Vesey and power play leading the way, but their run comes down to team defense.
Record: 21-12-5 | Conference: Hockey East
Beat Denver, its West Region foe, 5-4 in overtime in October and has the talent to win it all, but missing the consistency
Record: 19-10-7 | Conference: Hockey East
Can’t think of a better way to make a power statement than to knock off bitter rival Michigan in the Midwest Region semifinals.
Record: 19-14-4 | Conference: WCHA
Knocked off both co-league champions to advance; held Minnesota State to 14 shots on goal in conference title game.
Record: 23-9-5 | Conference: WCHA
The only team in our Sweet 16 not to make the NCAA Tournament. A victim of league’s poor record vs. other conferences but one of best teams in the country.
