Air Force and Idaho are the consensus choices to play in ASN’s bowl game — the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl on Dec. 30 at Arizona Stadium in Tucson.
The game features a matchup of teams from the Mountain West and Sun Belt or Conference USA, but Army has appeared in one projection as a possible at-large team. Another projection has Arkansas State-UTSA in a Sun Belt-Conference USA matchup.
C-USA’s Old Dominion (6-3) is bowl eligible for the first time and has also emerged as a possibility.
Idaho (5-4), which is leaving the Sun Belt after next season and returning to FCS and the Big Sky Conference, needs another wins in its last three games to be bowl eligible. The Vandals plays at Texas State on Saturday.
Air Force (6-3) beat Army 23-6 on Saturday to clinch its 20th Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy and bowl eligibility. The Falcons also beat Navy, 28-14, on Oct. 1.
Despite a 3-6 record, Nevada made two projections for the Arizona Bowl, as did Colorado State (5-4).
The Wolfpack beat the Rams 28-23 in last year’s inaugural NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl.
“Well, that was fun. It was a really fun football game,” Nevada head coach Brian Polian said after his first bowl win in three seasons at Nevada. “It want to say publicly that this was a great experience. This was a great bowl.”
